DTAC was proud to be involved with The University of Melbourne’s innovation precinct, Melbourne Connect, found adjacent Swanston Street on the former Royal Women’s Hospital site in Carlton. The $360m project was the result of a partnership between The University of Melbourne and a consortium led by Lendlease.
The precinct offers 36,000m2 of office space for the Melbourne School of Engineering, commercial tenants, science galleries, retail and a 3,000m2 shared meeting and events super-floor. The precinct also features student accommodation which will be home to 526 postgraduates and visiting academic residents. The accommodation’s design is a series of connected buildings around the site perimeter surrounding a central outdoor living and working space.
Requirements
Across the project, DTAC has been a provider of choice on multiple fit out projects within the precinct’s connected buildings. DTAC approach every project with solutions tailored to meet the needs of the architects and the client’s aesthetic requirements while meeting NCC compliance throughout.
The project required careful consideration by the DTAC team to ensure the installation methods were best practice across the varying floor levels and substrates.
Approach
DTAC was contracted by Lendlease to supply and install a variety of Tactile Ground Surface Indicators (TGSI’s) and stair edging solutions. Among the products installed were DTAC’s newest addition, black PVD Ecotac® TGSI’s (DT0122), black urethane TGSI’s (DT0600B), and the renowned Corduroy stair edging in gold anodized (DE0110G).
The installed DTAC TGSIs and stair edging products have been tested and certified in accordance with the NCC to AS 4586 for slip resistance and AS 1428.4.1 / AS 1428.1 for luminance contrast.
